Taylor Aucoin
Senior/staff product engineer and technical founder. Twelve products taken from zero to one — consumer marketplaces, AI platforms, healthtech, and accommodation booking.
Available now — Taking up to two engagements, or the right full-time role.
Systems, end to end
Turborepo monorepos, typed contracts from Postgres to the pixel, and infrastructure a team of one can actually operate. State handled deliberately at every layer, component to cache to read replica.
Judgment, not tickets
I've been the founder and the first engineer, so I build like both. A feature starts as a UX problem and has to end as a business outcome. After twelve products I know which corners are load-bearing and which are decoration.
Twenty juniors, four teams
Fourteen cohorts through BCIT's industry-sponsored projects program over five years — at peak, four concurrent teams and over twenty junior developers shipping checkout systems, tax logic, search, and recommendation engines. Juniors ship when the work is scoped right. That scoping was mine.
Conventions that compound
I learn a codebase's conventions, enforce them in review, and write them down. The same convention files and role definitions hold AI-generated code to senior quality — that discipline is where the speed comes from.

Carts, payments, taxes, refunds, bookings, post-purchase. Built across Agora, Roomvy, Everbook's print orders, and a retreat booking platform.
Schemas designed for the use cases they'll actually meet, and state handled deliberately at every layer: component, store, query cache, CDN, database, read replica.
React and Next.js at the level where it matters: server components, caching strategy, bundle discipline.
Elasticsearch, recommendation engines, enrichment pipelines.
Tutorial-grade tickets: every layer of a feature mapped end to end, upfront. Writing a spec that precise is coding the feature through another person — or an AI agent.
Typed contracts, integration tests, preview environments. Knowing it works before the customer does.

“Taylor is a phenomenal engineer. During his time at Pine Studio, he took rough concepts and turned them into full products.”
“He successfully consolidated our infrastructure into a single unified platform, database, and authentication system.”
“Taylor's ability to wear different hats (client, project manager and senior engineer) while excelling at each of them was remarkable.”
